Spire Scholastic Meet #2 - Recap

The Spire Scholastic Meet #2 took place in Geneva this past Friday with two new Ohio # 1's being recorded to go along with countless PR's being set by the athletes who competed.

Emma Lane of Mentor High School lowered the previous top mark in the state in the 400m with her 56.67 finish and the Spire Academy's Charisma Taylor set a new 60m hurdles Ohio season's best with her 8.91 showing.  Taylor had a busy evening, as she also competed in the long jump, where she claimed first place with a jump of 17-04.50.

In 3200m action, Asta Rustad of Oberlin High School put forth an impressive 11:28.47 effort while on the boys side - it was Mentor's Matt Bull who pulled away late to take the win over second place finisher Nate Kawalec of Chardon.  Bull's finishing time was 9:38.93 while Kawalec secured a 9:46.50 result.  These performances represent the 3rd and 6th fastest times in the state this year.

Anthony Camerieri of Brecksville - Broadview Heights hung on in the 1600m as he took first in a tightly contested matchup with St. Edward's Alex Hauptman. Camerieri recorded a time of 4:29.43 with Hauptman crossing the line not far behind in 4:33.72.  Camerieri's time is the 4th fastest 1600m in the state this season.   
          Anthony Camerieri produced one of the best times in the 1600m in Ohio this year.

In the girls 1600m competition, Beavercreek's Taylor Ewert took an emphatic victory as she ran away from the field and won by a 17 second margin. Ewert's official time was 5:26.75.  The girls 800m saw one of the closest finishes of the evening as Sydney Hlifka of Gilmour Academy edged McDowell's Anna Dahlstrand.  Hlifka put a drive on over the final stretch to record her 2:27.51 finish, which was just ahead of Dahlstrand's time of 2:29.32.

           Hlifka and Dahlstrand were all smiles after their entertaining 800m 1 - 2 finish.
