MileSplit Scholastic Showcase at Spire - Field Events Report

           Jacob Wickey of Medina High School is the #1 ranked Weight Throw athlete in the country. 


Many field athletes produced elite performances at the recent MileSplit Scholastic Showcase at Spire meet in Geneva. These instances apply to both the boys and the girls divisions, as several new Ohio #1's were set.  

Medina High School's Jacob Wickey captured the win in the Weight Throw competition with a 78-00.00 result. Wickey's mark is an Ohio #1, a U.S. #1 and a new Spire Institute facility indoor record for high school boys. Shot-Put expert Jordan Geist of Pennsylvania's Knoch High School took 2nd place in the Weight Throw event with his 74-02.25 performance.  Geist has a previous result from this season which ranks him 1st in Pennsylvania and 2nd nationally.  His throw at the Showcase is 3rd All-Time in the Spire Institute's facility rankings.  


           Jacob Wickey demonstrated power and concentration on route to his win at the Showcase. 


           Jordan Geist finished 1st in the Shot-Put and 2nd in the Weight Throw at the Showcase. 


Elsewhere in boys action, Hillsboro's Austin Goolsby had quite a day at Spire as he took wins in both the Long Jump and Pole-Vault competitions. Goolsby's 22-01.50 1st place jump is an Ohio #5. Delmario Hairston of Lake Catholic and Gahanna Lincoln's Mason Stevens rounded out the top 3 with Hairston's Ohio #10 mark of 21-07.75 and Stevens' result of 21-00.00.  

In the Pole-Vault event, Austin Goolsby took an emphatic win with his vault of 16-02.00.  Goolsby's performance also earned him an Ohio #2 and a tie for U.S. #9.  His result is 3rd on the Spire Institute's All-Time facility indoor list for high school boys trailing only Lake Catholic's Matt Ludwig who recorded a 16-4.75 in 2015 and Indiana's Deakin Volz who registered an incredible 17-4.50 effort which was also accomplished in 2015.  

    

           Austin Goolsby left the Showcase with 2 wins and a new U.S. tie for #9 in the Pole-Vault. 


In the Girls Weight Throw, Madison Pollard of Anthony Wayne High School topped the competition with her 53-07.25 effort.  Pollard also competed in the Shot-Put event where she placed 3rd.

The Spire Academy's Charisma Taylor claimed 1st place in the Girls Triple Jump with a 38-03.00 and her result represents a new Ohio #1. Taylor also participated in the Long Jump competition where she placed 4th.  

  

           Charisma Taylor took the win in the Triple Jump as well as 4th place in the Long Jump. 


Two of the top ranked Pole-Vault athletes in Ohio engaged in a tightly contested match-up with Olentangy Orange High School's Anna Watson taking a narrow win over Walsh Jesuit's Allie Stern. Both Watson and Stern recorded vaults of 12-00.00 and both of these athletes are nationally ranked through previous performances this season.  Watson is ranked 1st in Ohio and in a tie for 16th in the U.S. while Stern is ranked in a tie for 2nd in Ohio and a tie for 25th in the U.S. 


           Olentangy Orange's Anna Watson took 1st place in the highly competitive Pole-Vault event. 


           Allie Stern of Walsh Jesuit took 2nd place at the Showcase with a vault of 12-00.00.
