OATCCC Indoor State Championship - D2 / D3 Girls Team Relay Events Report

           Dunbar High School won the state championship title in the 4 x 400m Relay. 


The OATCCC Indoor State Championship was held in Akron on Saturday, March 4th and it brought Ohio's best track and field athletes to the Stile Athletics Field House on the campus of the University of Akron.

Previous recap articles focused on boys and girls field events in both D1 and D2 / D3 as well as relay reports on D1, so now we will review some of the outstanding team relay performances that were demonstrated in girls D2 / D3 at the state championship meet.

In Girls D2 / D3 action, Dunbar High School claimed wins in both the 4 x 200m and 4 x 400m races while St. Thomas Aquinas captured the 4 x 800m state championship title.

Dunbar High School took the win in the 4 x 200m event with their stellar finishing time of 1:44.56 and this result represents an Ohio #4.  Beachwood High School finished 2nd in an Ohio #9 time of 1:46.02.  


           Dunbar High School won the 4 x 200m Relay in an impressive time of 1:44.56. 


In 4 x 400m action, Dunbar recorded a time of 4:08.65 on route to winning the state championship. Their time was 1 second clear of the 2nd place finishers from Indian Creek High School who posted a 4:09.51 result.  Dunbar's performance represents an Ohio #14 in the 4 x 400m rankings while Indian Creek's mark is good for 18th place on the state list.


           Dunbar High School's 4 x 400m winning time of 4:08.65 is the 14th ranked time in Ohio. 


Finally, in the 4 x 800m Relay competition, St. Thomas Aquinas High School edged Indian Creek to win the state title. St. Thomas Aquinas's time of 9:39.87 was slightly faster than the 9:40.91 result that Indian Creek produced.  St. Thomas Aquinas's time is ranked 9th on the state list for the 2017 indoor season while Indian Creek occupies the 11th position in the rankings.  


           St. Thomas Aquinas took the 4 x 800m Relay with a close victory over Indian Creek.
