Beavercreek's Taylor Ewert recorded a time of 50:01.00 in the 10K Race Walk event.
MileSplit Ohio had an opportunity to connect with Beavercreek High School's Taylor Ewert to learn about her experience at the recent Pan-American Junior Athletics Championships which took place in Trujillo, Peru. Ewert finished 6th in the 10K Race Walk event with her time of 50:01.00.
Taylor Ewert's race breakdown:
I went into this race, like any other race, knowing my goal time and what I would have to do to achieve it. I was also hoping to perform to the best of my ability. My goal was to attain at least a top 6 finish against this tough competition and to set a new P.R. During my race, I knew I had to try to stay patient in the beginning, focus in the middle and then just finish strong. The 10K Race Walk is such a long race, it helps when I break it up into sections and think about those sections individually to make the race go by faster and to help me concentrate on the task at hand.
I was a little disappointed with my race, even though I did finish top 6. I was hoping to achieve a P.R. with the great weather and talented competition, but going into my next 10K Race Walk, I now know that I will be more motivated to get that P.R. than I was before and lay down an even better race!
Now I am training for a 5K at the USA vs Canada duel meet in August and my sophomore XC season, which I am very excited about!
