Hilliard Darby's Sean Carney earned the first win of his high school career at last year's Midwest Meet of Champions. Then a freshman, Carney went 16:55.24 for a seven second gap on the race's runner-up, teammate Balaji Kurapati.
That performance marked Carney's second sub 17 effort; he achieved his pr of 16:46.45 at the 2017 Celtic Clash. Carney's sophomore highlights include a pair of twenty-fifth place finishes at highly competitive early season meets, the Hot Summer Bash and the Mason Invitational.
