(Youngstown State commit, Jahniya Bowers spoke to MileSplit following her 60m victory)
Following a cancellation of their Meet #1 scheduled for January 19th due to inclement weather, Kent State University officially opened their annual high school series with Meet #2 on Saturday at the campus fieldhouse. And it turned out to be worth the wait, as countless elite performances were demonstrated in both the track and field events.
Jahniya Bowers, a senior from East-Youngstown, took first place finishes in the 60m and 200m contests with her times of 7.55 and 25.05. Her 60m mark represents the top time in the state this season, as well as a new pr.
Elsewhere in girls action, Highland-Medina senior, Kaylie Kenne collected wins in the 1 Mile and 3200m races due to her 5:12.13 and 11:06.39 results.
MileSplit tracked Kenne down following her 1 Mile effort for some insight on how she performed.
On the boys side, Olentangy Orange's Andrew Schroff took down a deep field in the 1 Mile event, as he clocked 4:26.20 for the win. Among the notables that Schroff outpaced were Evan Manley and Adam Beucler. The Hudson duo finished second and third with times of 4:27.14 and 4:27.47, respectively.
