Boys: Bold Predictions, Events To Watch At Spire Showcase

Bold Prediction 1

Nick Foster goes US No. 1 and sub-4:10 in the 1600

After a stellar junior track campaign that ended with a New Balance Outdoor National Championship in the 2 Mile and senior cross country season which saw him run the table in the MHSAA season and finish 13th at Nike Cross Nationals, Ann Arbor Pioneer's Nick Foster has already hit the ground running this winter.

Foster kicked off his indoor campaign just after New Years Day with a 4:13.86 full mile personal best. The 1600 meter conversion would have been an indoor 1600 personal best 4:12.39. After a few rust-busters after this debut, he dropped an indoor personal best 800 of 1:53.73, just off his overall personal best of 1:53.38.

It appears that Foster's already in the kind of shape that should guide him to a new US No. 1 mark this weekend. Currently, the 1600 is led by a 4:12.40 from Knoxville Catholic (TN) senior Jake Renfree, but that 4:12.39 conversion would rank just ahead of Renfree.

This weekend, we'll see him face off against some of Ontario's finest, as well as Hudson's Evan Manley, Olentangy Orange's Andrew Schroff,  St. Ignatius's Nick Saul, and Howland's (MI) Vincent Mauri, among others. This will surely be a throw down from start to finish, but watch for Foster to take it from the gun and become the first athlete to break 4:10 in the 1600 or Mile this indoor season.
