Alicia Giannell Named USTFCCCA Women's Division III All-Academic Track & Field Team

Alicia Giannell was named to the women’s Division III All-Academic Track and Field Team
John Carroll University sophomore Alicia Giannell was one of 274 student-athletes named to the 2009 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association women's Division III All-Academic Track and Field Team.

Giannell, who was a NCAA qualifier in the long jump during the indoor season, was the lone Blue Streak representative among total of 274 student-athletes representing 91 Division III colleges and universities made up the 2009 All-Academic team.

It was a memorable year for Giannell, who placed 14th in the national women's long jump final at the 2009 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. She earned her spot at nationals with a jump of 5.56 meters at the Marietta Open.

A two-time all-conference performer (once indoor, once outdoor) in the long jump, Giannell was the first Blue Streak to qualify for the national championships in the long jump since Gen Kahn did so in 2006.

The USTFCCCA honors Division III individuals for their academic and athletic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track and field season.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met the NCAA Division III Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event.

The John Carroll women's track & field team also earned recognition from the USTFCCCA as one of 100 Division III programs that made up the women's 2009 All-Academic Team. To be nominated for the All-Academic team, a program must carry a minimum 3.100 cumulative grade-point average.
