JCU Head Coach Regis Scafe and the Blue Streaks were picked 6th in the OAC preseason poll
John Carroll University, coming off a 5-5 season, was picked to finish sixth by both the coaches and the media in the annual Ohio Athletic Conference preseason polls.
At the league's annual media day held at the Professional Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, John Carroll received 182 votes in the media poll to place fourth in the poll. Defending conference champion Mount Union received 320 votes, including all 32 first place tallies, to top the list.
In the coaches poll, which as a rule does not allow the head coaches to vote for their own team, Mount Union was first with 81 votes, and received nine of a possible ten first place votes. Otterbein was next with 72 votes. John Carroll was sixth with 43 votes.
"We are strong in many areas of this team," said John Carroll University head coach Regis Scafe, now in his 11th season. "It is all based on our experienced guys on the interior of both sides of the ball. Our seniors want to be leaders and want to be part of something special here at Carroll. They have been a great group to work with ... they are excited to get started, which gets me excited as well."
John Carroll players report to camp on Saturday, August 14.
Scafe, senior wide receiver Frank Ross (Canfield, OH, Canfield) (pictured above in front of the Hall of Fame bust of JCU alumnus Don Shula), senior quarterback/punter Jeffrey Javorek (Chesterland, OH, West Geauga) and assistant coach Craig Smith represented the Blue Streaks at the Media Day luncheon.
