Winik enjoys outstanding summer

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Lady Jacket sprinter Alexa Winik followed up a record-setting rookie season at Cedarville University with solid showings at two major meets in her homeland of Canada.

Winik, a native of Windsor, Ontario, performed in two events in her hometown on July 3-5 at the 2009 Ontario Senior Championships & Canada Games Trials. She was representing the Phoenix Athletics Association.

Winik finished 5th in the women's senior 400 meter dash in 56.32 seconds. She won her heat in 56.56 to qualify for the finals. She also placed 8th in the senior 200 meter dash in 24.65 seconds following a 3rd-place showing in her heat in 24.97.

It was on to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island for the 2009 Canadian Junior Track & Field Championships on July 17-19. Winik placed 5th in the 400 meter dash finals in 56.95 seconds. She qualified as the runner-up in her heat in 57.24.

Winik was 6th in the finals of the 200 meters in 25.26. Her qualifying mark of 25.05 was good enough to win her heat.

Winik set three schools records during her freshman campaign at Cedarville in the indoor 55 meter dash, indoor 60 meters, and outdoor 200 meters. She was also the Outstanding Performer of the Meet at the NCCAA Indoor Championship.
