Jeff Kosek scores the first of his three goals in John Carroll's 6-0 win over Malone
Box Score
The John Carroll Blue Streaks started the season off with a bang as a hat trick by senior
Jeff Kosek (Brecksville, OH, Brecksville-Broadview Heights) sparked the Blue Streaks to a 6-0 win over the Malone Pioneers Tuesday at Don Shula Stadium.
In the season opener for both teams, Kosek posted his first career three-goal game in span of just less than 10 minutes. After a scoreless 20 minutes to begin play, Kosek erupted with an unassisted goal at the 24;41 mark, a beautiful finish of a combination play by
Corey Rider (Vermilion, OH, Vermilion) and Thor Erikson at 27:26, and another feed from Rider at 33:54.
Kosek was joined by Eriksen in the scoring column at the end of the first period, and by junior
Andrew Fatigati and sophomore
Ben Vietmeier in the second half.
Blue Streaks goaltender
Matt DeMarchi saw limited offensive pressure as he faced one shot and turned it away with ease. In front of DeMarchi was a stiffling JCU defense that thwarted opportunity after opportunity by the Pioneers. The defensive corps was led by sophomore
Jake Milli and junior Dave Hickey.
John Carroll outshot Malone 18-2 in today's contest.
