The John Carroll University soccer programs will host the third annual John Carroll Classic sponsored by Enerco on September 11 and 12 at Don Shula Stadium. The two-day event features four men's and four women's teams, with each team playing two pre-determined opponents.

The men's foursome includes John Carroll, Hiram College (OH), Transylvania University (KY) and Waynesburg University (PA). The women's quartet has some local flavor with neighborhood rival Case Western Reserve University participating, in addition to Grove City College (PA) and Olivet College (MI).

Action will get underway at 1:00 p.m. Friday when the Blue Streak women take on Grove City. Matches will take place on the odd hours up until 7:00 p.m. when the John Carroll men's squad goes toe-to-toe with Transylvania to conclude day one.

It's a quick turnaround for all as day two starts at promptly 12:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon with a women's match between Olivet and Grove City. The men from Transylvania and Waynesburg are next up with a 2:00 p.m. start time before turning things over to the teams from Ohio.

John Carroll's women's team will play Case Western at 4:00 p.m., and then the Blue Streaks and Hiram will conclude the event with a 6:00 p.m. match.

Both JCU games from Saturday will be available LIVE in a webcast format by clicking here. The webcast will feature a live video feed courtesy of SportsTime Ohio and broadcasting from the JCU Sports Information Department for a fee of $5.95.

The JCU men's and women's games from Saturday will be broadcast on SportsTime Ohio on a tape delay basis. The women's game airs at 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the men's game will be shown twice. The first showing is at 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13 and it will be re-played again at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Both John Carroll teams will look to repeat their performances from last year when they combined to go 4-0, outscoring their opponents 21-1.

Team Capsules

Women

John Carroll is 0-2-1 on the year, but appears to be ready to get back to full strength this weekend after being hit with a rash of early season injuries. Caitlyn Walton (Fairport, NY, Fairport) has scored two of the Blue Streaks' four goals on the season.

Grove City, on the other hand, has yet to lose in 2009. After a 4-3 win over Daemen on Sept. 4, the Wolverines played to a 0-0 tie with Mount Union College on Sept. 5. Freshman Grace Reimen made an impression on her teammates with a game-winning goal against Daemen in the 88th minute.

Case Reserve is 1-1-1 on the young campaign, with its most recent result a 3-0 thrashing of Muskingum College. Senior Kaitlyn Yule had a hand in the scoring as the Spartans outshot the Muskies, 21-0, in that game.

Olivet won its first game against Marygrove by a 2-0 score but has since dropped back-to-back decisions to Huntongton and Grace and stands at 1-2. Justine Zachos has tallid two of the Comets four goals this season.

Men

John Carroll is 2-1 in 2009, and have outscored its opposition by an 11-1 count. The lone goal allowed was in a 1-0 loss to #6 ranked Ohio Wesleyan Tuesday. Corey Rider (Vermilion, OH, Vermilion) already has six points (two goals, two assists) through three games.

Transylvania has won just one match thus far, but goaltender Trey Kramer -- who boasts a 0.48 GAA --has done his part for the Pioneers. This will be the first time JCU and Transylvania have met since the Pioneers eliminated the Blue Streaks in the 2007 NCAA Division III Championships on penalty kicks.

Hiram stunned Case Reserve, 2-1, in its opening game, but has suffered back-to-back 1-0 shutout losses at home to Otterbein and Muskingum. The forward duo of Ryan Minick and Cole Miller accounted for the Terriers' goals against Case.

Waynesburg is 0-4 in the early going but has come close in its last two matches to notching its first win. A late goal led to a 1-0 loss to Franciscan on Sept. 5, and Erick Burke's two goals (including one just 46 seconds into the match) did not hold up in a loss to Frostburg State Tuesday.
