Inspired Streaks Deliver Second Half Knockout Punches To Defeat Grove City

Amanda Buxton had assists on the first two JCU goals as the Blue Streaks raced past Grove City
After a tough first half, an inspired John Carroll women's soccer team completely turned the tables and delivered five knockout blows in the second half to defeat Grove City, 5-0, in the first round of the John Carroll Classic Friday afternoon at Shula Stadium.

Box Score

Even though the first period resulted in a 0-0 tie, Grove City had outshot the Blue Streaks by an 11-4 count. Five saves by JCU keeper Molly Gradowski (Bethesda, MD, Georgetown Visitation), as well as a post and a crossbar, conspired to eep the visiting Wolverines off the scoreboard.

It did not take long for JCU to show the second half would be a completely different outcome. Posting the first tally for the Streakswas senior midfielder Caitlyn Walton (Fairport, NY, Fairport) at the 47:41 mark. Walton's marker was her third of the season, which leads the Streaks.

Following Walton's tally, senior midfielder Elizabeth Daigler (Chicago, IL, Mother McAuley) (52:24), junior forward Betsy Haigh (64:04), freshman foward Kristen Profeta (Willoughby Hills, OH, GIlmour Academy) (76:20) and junior midfielder Alicia Sovacool (Akron, OH, St. Vincent - St. Mary) (89:32) each scored their first goals of the season. Daigler's goal was her 14th as a Blue Streak, while Profeta's marker was the first of her career.

Gradowski meanwhile stopped five more shots to post her first career shutout.

The win gives the Streaks their first of the season moving them to a 1-2-1 record, while it pushes the Wolverines to a 1-1-1 mark.
