BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - After a solid eighth place finish in the Mel Brodt Invitational last Saturday the Bowling Green men's cross country team will trek to the city for the Iona Meet of Champions Saturday in the Bronx, New York.

The meet, an 8K race which is set to get underway in Van Cortlandt Park at 10:15, will feature 23 teams.

Some of the top teams that will be racing include: Wisconsin, which is ranked fourth in the nation and Iona, which is rated as the seventh best team in Division I, Harvard (6th in the Northeast region), Miami (Ohio) (10th in the Great Lakes region), Navy (10th in the Mid-Atlantic region), Kent State (12th in the Great Lakes region) and Yale (12th in the Northeast region).

“We know that the competition level will be high which is an excellent chance for us to rise to the occasion and use the competition to help us get the best we can out of ourselves,” head coach Cami Wells said. “To become better you have to compete against quality competition.”

Wells has been pleased with the continued improvement that the team has shown in both meets so far.

“I expect the men's team to continue to work on closing up the gaps between runners, to work together and get the most they can out of themselves to give the best team effort,” Wells said.

“Now that we have a couple races in this season including an 8K, I expect the men to be more confident and aggressive in the middle of the race.”

Junior Chris Moody has been the top finisher for the Falcons in both races so far and was the eighth place finisher with a personal best time of 25:11 in last weekend's Mel Brodt Invitational.

John Bernard, Abraham Buseinei, Jeff Ehler, Johnstone Kirui, Ben Leininger, Peter Miles, Chris Moody, Jason Salyer and Jesse Smuda will all be making the trip for the Falcons.
