Maddie Ullom Goes For a Unique Triple
--
Mason's Maddie Ullom hasn't run the 200 since the 2018 outdoor season.
But the now middle distance and cross country star appears ready to give it another shot at this weekend's OSU High School Qualifier. Ullom is entered at 26.75 in the 200, a few ticks off her career best 26.03, and sits behind Thurgood Marshall's Shiann Williams and Lima's Deji'Ona Shurelds Simpson.
Ullom is also entered as a frontrunner in the 400 and 1600. The Penn State commit boasts a 56.59 career best in the 400 (57.94) indoor and is one of only two girls seeded under 60 seconds. She's also run 5:01.11 in the 1600, but never competed in the mile on the indoor track.
In the 1600, she'll be challenged primarily by Hilliard Darby's Daniella Santos. Santos had a major breakthrough during the 2018 cross country season which led to a 2019 indoor season in which she ran 5:08/10:42. The times didn't drop during outdoor season, but Santos was able to qualify for Foot Locker Nationals this cross country season after winning her district and region meets, and placing 15th in cross country. So far, she's run 5:20.14 for the win at the second Ohio State Qualifier meet, but, in her only race of the day, and with some fierce competition, that season's best should come way down.
