Lady Jackets, Gillespie 2nd in Friendship

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Katie Gillespie was the individual runner-up and NAIA #2 Cedarville finished second in the 19th Annual Friendship Invitational at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course.

NCAA Division II #16 Ashland won the 16-team affair with 39 points while the Lady Jackets tallied 64. NAIA #23 Shawnee State was next with 110 points.

Gillespie burned up the 5,000 meter layout in 17:34 which is the fastest CU time ever on the course. She trailed champion Sarah Foster of Ohio State by 10 seconds.

Lydia Wong finished 4th in 18:36. Carolyn Case was 17th in 19:32, Hannah Lamos was 18th in 19:33, and Neola Putnam placed 30th in 20:00. Four of the team's top five runners were freshmen.

Sarah Stevens finished 54th in 20:33. Completing the scoring for Cedarville was Carolyn Cann, who crossed the line in 20:48 to end up 62nd. [COMPLETE RESULTS]
