"On This Day" ...

A year ago today, Chris Greene made his way to Northmont on MileSplit Ohio's behalf to take on coverage duties at the Jack Lintz Invite

Just under 20 teams were on-site in Clayton for, in many cases, a season opener and for a few others, the second competition of the season.

Among the meet's highlights was the running of the rarely contested 5000m event. One of the featured races at New Balance Nationals Outdoor, the 5k only makes its way into the schedule at a hand-full of Ohio-based meets throughout the course of the regular season and Jack Lintz represents one of those occasions.

During men's action, in said event, it was Tippecanoe's Bryce Conley notching a 1st place finish by almost a 40 second margin with his time of 15:47.00. On the ladies side, Emma Bucher was equally as dominant by crossing the line 30 seconds ahead of her closest competitor. Centerville's Bucher, then a sophomore, clocked 17:43.28 for the win.

A trio of athletes picked up doubles at the early season gathering: Chaminade Julienne teammates, Calvin Hatcher and Jazmyn Potts, along with Kettering Fairmont representative, Andrew Sarmir.

Hatcher went 11.25 and 22.86 for the 100 and 200 victories, while Potts earned triumphs in the 200 and 100H contests with marks of 27.30 and 15.46, respectively. Sarmir continued his excellent start to the 2019 outdoor campaign with wins in the 800 (2:03.84) and 1600 (4:28.59). He had already dipped under the 2 minute standard in the 800 earlier that week -- 1:59.15 at the Wayne Small Invite.

You can watch Sarmir's 1600m effort below, along with that of the girls event champion, Grace Hartman. Hartman, from Oakwood, put a 30 second gap on the field and finished the 4-lap race in just over 5:02.
