Ashley Aberl was the top Division III runner at the 2009 National Catholic Championships
Ashley Aberl (Toledo, OH, Notre Dame) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for her outstanding race at the National Catholic Championships Friday at the University of Notre Dame.
In just her third collegiate race, the JCU freshman finished second among college division runners and 11th among all runners. Her time of 18:53.1 was better than the number one runners from Division I school such as DePaul, Xavier and Detroit-Mercy.
In the overall standings, Notre Dame claimed the title with 20 points, well ahead of Canisius(129), DePaul (150), Holy Cross (158) and Xavier (174). Bellarmine (178), Franciscan (228), Loras (281), John Carroll (294), and Detroit Mercy (308) rounded out the top ten.
It was John Carroll's best finish in the event since placing ninth in 2006.
