Update: 2020 Midwest Meet Of Champions Canceled

Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association (MITCA) announced on Saturday that the 2020 edition of the Midwest Meet of Champions has been cancelled due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The annual end-of-season showcase, which has been running since way back in 1974, features senior class all-stars from Michigan, Indiana and Ohio in a one of a kind inter-state classic.

Hosting responsibilities for the meet rotates through the three states in 4-year increments. This year's competition was scheduled for June 13th at Michigan State University in East Lansing. The next installment of the meet is now slated for June 12th, 2021 at MSU.

In addition to providing athletes with one more occasion to display their skills prior to officially departing the high school ranks, the MMOC also enables participants to have the unique opportunity to represent their state's colors and interact with peer's from throughout their own state, along with those from neighboring states in a fun and festive gathering. Among the many enjoyable aspects of meet is the official kick-off, known as the Parade of Athletes.

While certainly disappointing, this news shouldn't necessarily come as a surprise. In recent days, it was announced that spring sports at the high school level have been cancelled in both Michigan and Indiana. The latest news out of Ohio is a return to school and athletics on May 1st, however this date should be considered subject to change.
