Ohio's Outdoor Track And Field Season Cancelled

On Tuesday morning, the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) announced that all spring sports, track and field included, are cancelled for the 2020 season due to health concerns relating to the coronavirus (Covid19).

This public notice aligns with the communication that was initially supplied to OHSAA member schools on Monday and it's in accordance with Governor Mike DeWine's order for remote learning to continue for all of the state's students throughout the duration of the current academic year.

The OHSAA had maintained from the onset of this crisis that if schools did not re-open, then spring sports would not commence. That unfortunate reality was officially confirmed today.

"As we have stated in our previous communications, the announcement by Governor DeWine to close schools for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year also will now result in the cancellation of OHSAA-sponsored spring sports seasons including tournaments," -- Executive Director, Jerry Snodgrass

We, at MileSplit Ohio, fully recognize this comes as extremely discouraging news for all spring sports athletes, and perhaps particularly to those from the senior class, so we're committed to providing members of the track and field community with a platform to express themselves.

In the days, weeks and months ahead, expect an influx of 'Senior Salute' articles, podcast guests, written interviews and features, plus much more in an effort to celebrate the accomplishments of our state's athletes.
