Ashley Aberl won her first collegiate race and, by doing so, her second OAC Runner of the Week award
For the second time in as many weeks, John Carroll freshman
Ashley Aberl (Toledo, OH, Notre Dame) garnered Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week accolades.
On the heels of her 11th place finish (and first place among Division III runners) at the National Catholic Championships on September 18, Aberl was the class of the field at the Salisbury University Don Cathcart Invitational this past Saturday in Salisbury, Maryland.
In the first 6,000-meter race of the 2009 season for the Blue Streaks, Aberl claimed the first medalist honor of her collegiate career by crossing the finish line in 22:14, eight seconds ahead of East Stroudburg's Rose Mascoli (22:22) and nine ahead of Frostburg State's Anne Patron (22:23).
Her efforts helped John Carroll win its second team title this fall, edging out Division II East Stroudsburg for first place honors.
