BGSU Women's Cross Country to Travel South for All-Ohio Championships

Thu, Oct, 01 | Women's Cross Country

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's cross country team will be back in action Friday as the Falcons are set to take on 44 schools from within Ohio at the All-Ohio Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.

The women's championship race will begin at 2 p.m. and the open race will start at approximately 3:30.
The Orange and Brown recorded a solid eighth place finish at the Iona Meet of Championships nearly two weeks ago and will look to use that meet as a springboard for the All-Ohio meet.

“I have been pleased with the way the women have raced all season,” head coach Cami Wells said. “I do not think they have raced to their potential yet and the Iona meet was good motivation for them to come out more aggressive this weekend.”

The women's race will feature many of the top teams in the buckeye state.

The Falcons will race alongside eight other Division I programs including fellow Mid-American Conference members Akron, Miami and Ohio. Miami is ranked sixth and Akron eighth in the Great Lakes region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Ashland, which is ranked 14th in the nation in Division II, will be joined by seven Division III teams in the top ten of the Great Lakes Region.

Heather Conger, who has been enduring some minor injuries, is nearly back to full strength for the Falcons.

Conger, a junior, will be joined in the championship race by seniors Andrea Pereira de Almeida and Carly Wells. Juniors Ashley Fischer, Sally Kandie, Megan Kelsey, and freshman Abby Koch will also race.

Juniors Barbara Powers, who almost recovered from an injury, Autumn Dettmann, Courtney Krummert, will race alongside freshmen Mindy Henry, Taylor Stichter and Alixe Korsnack in the open race.

“The All-Ohio Meet is a very large diverse meet on a very challenging course and it is a meet we look forward to being a part of every year,” concluded Wells. “There is a lot of history to the All-Ohio Meet and we get to compete against most the teams in Ohio so it is important for many reasons.”
