(One of Illinois' top rising seniors in the horizontal jumps, McKenna Cinotte, from Downers Grove North High School, will be in action at the Summer Fest)
The Comets Summer Fest field events meet will kick off this afternoon at 4:00 on the campus of Genoa Area High School.
A stellar line-up of jumps and throws specialists, from Ohio and several nearby states, have been assembled for the following events, which are scheduled to be contested: pole vault, high jump, triple jump, long jump, shot put and discus.
Meet director, Luke Hodulik shared with MileSplit information pertaining to how this competition came together, as well as the safety precautions that he'll have in place.
"I had some kids who were asking about all the baseball and softball games they were seeing, and how they really wanted to have a chance to compete this year."
"I surveyed a few coaches and thought, why not? So we went ahead with a field-based meet. It was really thrown together in about a week and a half. I started getting calls and e-mails from several states - people just looking for their athletes to have a chance to compete."
"We have a decent amount of 2020 class members who wanted one last shot, so we are happy to provide that. We'll be following strict Covid-19 safety guidelines. It's going to be a fun day!"
