Wells got off to a very strong start as she was tied for ninth after the first mile in the 5K race. She dropped into a tie for 20th after the second mile before ending up in 29th place. Wells ended up 20th among Division I runners.

Junior Ashley Fischer used a strong finish to take 36th/21st place in 19:48.2.

"Carly Wells and Ashley Fischer both had strong races," head coach Cami Wells said. "Carly and Ashley have been very consistent in all of the races so far this year."

Freshman Abby Koch and senior Andrea Pereira de Almeida crossed the line consecutively in 20:00.7 and 20:02.7 to place 49th/28th and 50th/29th.

Junior Sally Kandie rounded out the BGSU scoring finishing 72nd/35th with a time of 20:30.9.

Juniors Heather Conger (20:34.1; 76th/38th) and Megan Kelsey (21:18.5; 119th/45th) also raced in the championship meet for the Falcons.

In only her second race of the season, junior Barbara Powers finished fourth in the open race with a time of 20:19.2.

"Barbara Powers had a strong race coming back from her injury," Wells said.

Junior Autumn Dettmann was tenth after finishing in 20:52.8.

Freshman Taylor Stichter (21:28.4; 28th), junior Courtney Krummert (21:48.4; 39th), freshman Mindy Henry (22:01.6, 50th) and freshman Alixe Korsnack (22:40.0, 74th) also raced in the open race.

Even though the Falcons ran at a hilly course full of mud, Wells expected a little more out of her runners.

"I thought we could have competed better during the last mile," Wells said. "We will use this as motivation.

"There were hills in the last mile, we let up and that is something that they will have to work on. It wasn't our best effort."

The team will have next week off and will host the Falcon Invite on Saturday, October 17 at 10:45 a.m.

Coach Wells invites all fans out to the meet to cheer on the Falcon runners.
