(Lipscomb University commit, Colbi Borland took 1st place in the Division 1 race at the 2019 McGowan Invite with a time of 18:57.10)
On Monday, it was announced by the Watkins Memorial High School coaching staff that the 2020 edition of the McGowan Invitational, originally scheduled for Saturday, September 12th, is cancelled due to Covid-19 related safety considerations.
MileSplit Ohio reached out to Coach John Jarvis, who's part of the team that's instrumental in making the meet a success year-after-year, for more context on the decision.
"The McGowan Invitational at Watkins Memorial has always had the goal of providing an exceptional meet experience for the athletes, coaches, and spectators."
"In looking at the logistics of such a large meet, we could not find a way to host our meet that we felt would be responsible in our current situation."
"We feel a deep responsibility for not only the athletes, coaches, and spectators, but also our many fantastic volunteers and our community at large."
"We are looking forward to continuing our meet on Saturday, September 11th, 2021."
