Recapping The Kenston Bombers Classic

The Kenston boys and girls cross country teams completed a first-place sweep on Saturday morning at their home course at Kenston High School. There were only two races on the day, but these contests surely delivered some of the best performances in Ohio so far this season.

The boys race was loaded with competition from both Division 1 and Division 2. From D1, home team and #4 ranked Kenston battled #6 ranked Solon and #8 ranked Mentor. The race also featured D2 #1 ranked team Woodridge and #4 ranked Bay.

The Kenston boys put four runners in the top 10 individual finishers, leading to a team win with 42 points, more than 45 points over second place Woodridge. Senior Ryan Champa of Woodridge took the individual title with a time of 15:54.70, edging the runner-up from BoardmanFrank Bero (16:02.80) by eight seconds.

In girls competition, Ella Gilson of Hawken took the race from the opening gun. With each mile, Gilson separated herself more from the chase pack. She finished in 18:43.70 with second-place finisher Andrea Mann of Chardon coming in at 19:01.30.

The Kenston girls put together a strong lead pack with three runners finishing in the top 10, leading the Bombers to a team title and home team sweep. The Kenston girls won with 49 points and Mentor finished second with 64 points.
