Paige Floriea Recaps Commitment To UNC

The class of 2021 is currently experiencing an unprecedented recruiting season. Starting from the cancellation of their critical junior track and field season, to an extended dead period with no official visits, and a never ending number of Zoom calls, this senior class has been trying to wrap their heads around college recruiting. Though this global pandemic may have muddied the waters, the light remains at the end of the tunnel and many young recruits are beginning to find their way. The first big name Ohio recruit, Paige Floriea, announced her verbal commitment to the University of North Carolina a few weeks ago.

Paige Floriea is a decorated sprinter and jumper from Mentor High School, holding three state titles in the long jump and numerous state medals in the 60m, 100m, and 200m dash between indoor and outdoor seasons. She plans to contribute to UNC's success in the long jump, open 100, open 200, and possibly some relays!

Paige shared her thoughts on committing to the Tar Heels.

"One of the biggest factors for me was finding which coaches I could get along with and would work the best with me in both jumping and running. I then started looking at campus, the academics, and getting to talk to some of the girls. These critical decision points were increasingly difficult to navigate through a pandemic. It was definitely hard to make such a big decision without being on campus officially, but the coaches at UNC recognized that and gave me the resources and information to be comfortable with committing even without being there."

Through Zoom calls with the team and coaches, virtual tours, and many more online features, Paige knew at the end of the day, UNC was the place for her.

She'll be joining an impressive 2021 recruiting class at UNC and is set to achieve great things with the program. Aiming to break the Ohio state record in long jump, she has her eyes set on big goals to finish off her high school career at Mentor for the upcoming indoor and outdoor track and field seasons.
