Gillespie wins 6K race; Jackets 2nd to Purdue

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - CU freshman Katie Gillespie ran to victory at the DePauw/Rose-Hulman Invitational where the NAIA #8 Lady Jackets finished as the runner-up behind Purdue.

The race was set at the NCAA championship distance of 6,000 meters, but that didn't bother Gillespie. She won her second title of the season by 39 seconds with a winning mark of 21:58. There were a total of 239 competitors.

Lydia Wong was 17th in 23:36, Carolyn Case placed 25th in 23:53, and she was closely followed by Rachel Wong, who was 27th in 23:55. Neola Putnam finished 35th in 24:11.

Erica Hoff competed in her first varsity race and placed 82nd in 25:14. Abby Wong rounded out the top seven in the 106th position in 25:49.

Purdue won the team title with 56 points. The Lady Jackets had 105 points to edge DePauw, who finished with 106. [RESULTS]
