Registration Open For Midwest High School XC Challenge

Register For Midwest High School XC Challenge

Midwest High School XC Challenge is set for Saturday, November 28th in Springfield.

The meet, sponsored by Finish Timing and with coverage provided by MileSplit Ohio, will feature top runners from throughout the region in 'Elite' and 'Future Stars' divisions.

The 5km races will go down at Champions Park course and qualification will be based on MileSplit's rankings. Athletes from the following states are eligible to compete:

  • Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Kentucky

We reached out to Mike Chatfield, lead timer and a member of the meet management team, for context on why it was necessary to supply the region's cross country runners with this unique opportunity.

"I feel the athletes have been cheated enough this year with some being forced to conference only play and others not even being allowed to compete."

"There are individuals in this state that normally would "run up" a division to just see how they compare to the bigger schools - this year this was not possible."

"I am hoping we can give them a chance to do so." "We have college coaches that would like to see this, also, as there will be some in attendance since they cannot get into any of the current meets or most any meet this year."

"For those that don't feel safe attending we will be live streaming the event to help everyone see our athletes compete."  "Hopefully we can get some athletes from neighboring states that have had the same problems as we have had and want to see different competition and compete on a regional level."
