Guinness Brown Runs PA No. 1 400 At Spire

It was a big day for Butler's Guinness Brown at the SPIRE Scholastic Showcase on Sunday. Across state lines in Ohio, the junior turned in a pair of strong performances in the sprints.

Brown became the first Pennsylvania boy this season under 50 seconds in the 400 meters, capturing an impressive victory. He wasn't in the first (AKA "fastest" section) but that didn't stop him from taking the win. Brown, out of lane 2, held onto the rail at the breakpoint and then extended his lead from there to clock a time of 49.12, a new PA No. 1. It's also a new PR for Brown, who is enjoying a breakthrough winter.

Brown returned in the 200 meters, once again winning his heat. He ended up fifth overall in the field, running a time of 22.23. That time wasn't far off his own state-leading time of 22.18, which he ran back on Jan. 16 at the second Youngstown State meet.

Brown is proving that he will be a sprinter to watch in Pennsylvania this winter and into the spring. Watch Brown's races below.
