Canal Winchester's Korbin Martino wasn't the only Ohioan to do damage in the 400 meter event on Friday at adidas Indoor Nationals in Virginia Beach.

Gabe Singh, assigned to Section 13 of the Open Division, took 1st place honors in his race with a 50.62 showing. At the end of the day, his mark stood as 3rd place overall when merging the results from all sections.

Singh, a senior at Sylvania Northview and a commit to Oakland University, MI, has been a model of consistency over the quarter-mile distance during the 2021 indoor campaign. He's maintained an active schedule, lining up at seven meets and producing 50 point marks on each occasion. His latest performance should provide him with considerable confidence heading into the OATCCC Division 1 State Finale

Here's a rundown of Singh's performances prior to his effort at Nationals --

MileSplit Ohio reached out to Singh for more context on how the contest played out from his vantage point.

"What was going through my head when I was racing was "prove who you are, and show your worth" today I wasn't thinking too much about what would go on or what would happen, I wanted to prove to people who I was, and how hard I've worked to get this far."

"The banked hydraulic track was very different, I wasn't used to how raised it was, but being focused was my main goal on succeeding today. Today was the first 200m track I've raced on since the 2020 season."

"I've run on YSU's track multiple times and even SPIRE's 300m track. The feeling of just standing on a podium receiving a national medal was an honor and I am very excited to take this momentum to the outdoor season with the 300m hurdles and possibly even the 400m or the 200m."
