Fisher Honored by MAC as Runner of Week for Second Time this Season

10/20/2009 9:15:00 PM

CLEVELAND, OH - Sophomore Ari Fisher (Lebanon, OH) earned her second MAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week honor this season following her performance at the Pre-Nationals Invitational Saturday in Terre Haute, IN.

Fisher led the Rockets to a 16th-place showing as she finished 37th overall out of 249 runners. She finished in a time of 21:27.6, nearly 25 seconds ahead of the nearest MAC individual as Toledo recorded its third-best performance in program history at the meet.

Fisher also earned the distinction on Sept. 29 after winning the Colonial Inter-Regional Challenge in a personal-best time of 21:04.3 on a 6K course. She helped lead the Rockets to a commanding victory over two other regionally ranked opponents in William & Mary and Navy. Fisher also earned Runner of the Week honors on Oct. 23, 2007 after she placed third overall at the Tiffin Short Course meet.

"Ari is establishing herself as one of the favorites in the region with the year that she is having," said head coach Kevin Hadsell. "She has a great opportunity to be the MAC champion next week and she is only at the tip of her talent level. All of this from a girl that had never made our varsity team before this year is an amazing accomplishment."

The Rockets compete at the Eastern Michigan Open at 4 p.m. Friday in their final race before the MAC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 31 at Ohio University.
