YPSILANTI, MI - Led by a strong performance from freshman Devyn Ramsay (Benzonia, MI), the University of Toledo women's cross country team had a strong showing at the Eastern Michigan Fall Classic Friday evening, the final competition before the MAC Championships.

Ramsay finished sixth overall in the meet in a time of 18:19. She was followed by classmate Kristal Studer (Bright, IN), who took 12th in the 5,000 meter race with a time of 19:07. Both Ramsay and Studer locked up spots in Toledo's top-nine to compete at the MACs.

"Devyn was able to run a great time on a very muddy course," said Sara Vergote, the distance coach for the track and field program. "The University of Michigan ran its 'A' team today and for her to break up their top-five is impressive, especially for a freshman."

Other strong showings were turned in by sophomore Joni Camp (Sterling, OH), who recorded a 15th-place finish in 19:19. She was followed by freshman Samantha Condron (Miamisburg, OH) in 19th place (19:32). Sophomore Emma Kertesz (Toledo, OH) placed 26th in 19:49, while several Rockets were tightly bunched behind her.

Junior Jenna Fausey (Minster, OH) came in 31st in 19:55, junior Maureen Gibbs (Ottawa Lake, MI) took 33rd in 19:59, freshman Hannah Brisson (Casco, MI) placed 34th in 20:00, sophomore Ali Fisher (Lebanon, OH) finished 36th in 20:01 and freshman Danielle Borowske (Kirtland, OH) followed in 37th in 20:04.

"Despite the rough weather conditions, our women showed up to race today," Vergote said. "We are incredibly proud of their performance and are excited heading into the MAC Championships."

The men had two runners compete at the event, and junior Mike Smith (Toledo, OH) took 35th out of 47 runners with a time of 17:06, and junior Joel Kozlesky (Westerville, OH) was right behind in 17:13, good for 39th place.

Ohio University hosts the MAC Championships, which take place Saturday, Oct. 31. The Rockets are seeking their third title this decade, which would be the most of any MAC program.
