Ramsay Named MAC Cross Country Runner of Week

10/28/2009 6:45:00 PM

CLEVELAND, OH - University of Toledo freshman Devyn Ramsay (Benzonia, MI) has been honored as the MAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week.

Ramsay finished sixth overall at the Eastern Michigan Open on Friday, Oct. 23. She completed the 5,000 meter course in a time of 18:19.00, and Ramsay broke up the top-five of the University of Michigan's "A" team while also finishing ahead of all eight Michigan State runners who were entered in the event.

"Devyn is incredibly tough and has the ability to push herself to the point of exhaustion for a long period of time, which is the key to being a great distance runner," said head coach Kevin Hadsell, in his 12th year leading the Rockets. "At this point, she is a legitimate contender for a top-seven finish at the MAC Championships this weekend. She is one of the most talented freshmen I have had in a long time."

Earlier this fall, Ramsay finished third overall in Toledo's dual meet win over Bowling Green on Sept. 4, and she was the fourth-best Rocket runner at the Pre-Nationals Invitational on Oct. 17.

Ramsay and the Rockets will compete at the MAC Championships at noon Saturday, Oct. 31.
