Falcons Look to Improve at the MAC Championships

Thu, Oct, 29 | Men's Cross Country

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's cross country team is set to compete in the pinnacle meet of its season as the Falcons will run in the Mid-American Conference Championship at 11 a.m.  on Saturday in Athens, Ohio on the campus of Ohio University.
The team will take off Friday morning to prepare for the 8K race Saturday.
The goals will not change much for Coach Cami Wells or the runners compared to previous races.
“The goal is to have each man give his best effort in order for the team to give it's best effort,” Wells said. “We want to improve on the finish we had last year as a team with better placings as individuals and a better team score.”
“The goal is always for the MAC meet to be our best team meet of the season.”
The Falcons finished ninth in last season's race and have used that finish as motivation during the entire season.
With the emergence of the team's three top runners, junior Chris Moody, freshman Jason Salyer and junior Jesse Smuda, Wells expects the team to respond and have a better race this year.
“Chris, Jason and Jesse have all been very consistent this season, I expect that they will continue to be consistent for us as leaders on the team and they are all ready to run strong races this weekend,” Wells said. “I expect that the rest of the men on the team will also step up to the challenge and follow our top 3 runners up with improved efforts to put us in a position to have our best team performance.”
Juniors Chris Moody, Jesse Smuda, Johnstone Kirui, Abraham Busienei and John Bernard will lead the charge. Sophomores Ben Leininger and Peter Milles will also run along with freshman Jason Salyer.
