While competing in separate divisions, Ohio's Logan Eggert and Braden Yingst secured 2000m Steeplechase hardware on Wednesday at the AAU Junior Olympic Games in Humble, Texas.
In the 15-16 year-old grouping, Eggert, a Mount Vernon High School product who represents the Mansfield Urban Youth Track Club during the summer season, clocked 6:38.76 en route to victory. The rising sophomore leaned on a strong bell lap to punctuate his win, as he pulled away late from the second place finisher Diego Ramirez. Ramirez, a Laredo, Texas resident competing for RXC, produced a 6:45.76 mark.
For 17-18 year-olds, Braden Yingst crossed the line in third place with a time of 6:17.22 in what was a highly competitive affair. Yingst, a member of Ohio Blue Thunder and a rising senior at Lima-Perry, finished less than 2-seconds behind champion Kendall Phillips (Ellicott City, MD), who went 6:15.57 to earn the title. Texas native Wyatt Hoover took runner-up honors with his 6:15.98 effort.
