Three Honored As Track & Field Athletes of Month

11/9/2009 3:00:00 PM

TOLEDO, OH - Kevin Hadsell, the University of Toledo's director of track and field and cross country, has announced the program's Athletes of the Month for October. Each month, the coaching staff chooses one athlete out of his or her event area that has been the example of what it takes to be a championship athlete. These athletes are honored for their leadership, work ethic and performance.

Sprints/Hurdles/Multi: Julie Snyder (So., Celina, OH)

"Julie has been leading by example and is getting into the best shape of her life," said Adam Kiesler, assistant coach for sprints and hurdles. "She has the ability to challenge for MAC Championships and her leadership this fall has been motivating to her teammates as well."

Field Events: Michelle Sutherland (Sr., Maumee, OH)

"Mikki is in great shape," said Jiana Jin, longtime assistant coach for jumps. "She took last year's redshirt to improve. She is jumping very well off short approach right now and I think she will have a very good opener in December."

Distance: Renata Volf (Sr., Krizevcli, Croatia)

"Renata has the ability to push herself incredibly hard in workouts and races," said Sara Vergote, assistant coach for distance. "This season, Renata has really emerged as a mentor for the younger women in the program and I am excited for her to end her career on a great note."
