On Saturday in Logan, Connor Ackley kicked-off his 2022 indoor campaign winning the 1600 meter contest in 4:23.21.
The junior classman from Hilliard Davidson jumped up front off the gun and extended his lead over the dozen other members of Section 1 with each passing lap on the Chieftain Center's 200m oval.
It made for a sleek transition of seasons for Ackley, who garnered much success during fall cross country, including a state meet runner-up finish and an individual (and team) title at the highly competitive McQuoid Invite in New York, to name a few.
His opener at the Chieftain Center Classic represents an Ohio No. 1 time and the thirtieth best effort nationally over the 1600m distance in the early stages of the indoor season.
Ackley's Wildcats teammate Nick Puhl claimed the second spot in the race standings, running 4:30.72 which resides as the state's third best mark to date.
