With one of the most historic and prestigious competitions set to take place at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, PA, this weekend, the Penn Relays Carnival has been a dream for many, and entries have all now been published.
See below for who will be representing #TeamOhio at the Penn Relays Carnival.
Sarah Peer (Westlake 2024) - COA Girls Mile
Dylan Wood (Copley 2024) - COA Boys 3000m
Sydney Foglesong(Adena 2023) - Girls Discus
Westlake - Girl's 4x800m Relay
(Sarah Peer, Ellie Irwin, Sydney Peer, Sarah Coleman)
Sarah Peer
800m Run - 2:15.47
Mile (indoor) - 4:51.631500m (indoor, enroute) - 4:32.92
The Westlake junior has been on quite a roll this year, from placing second in the OHSAA D1 State Cross Country Championships in back in November, to setting a slew of personal bests across 4 events during this previous indoor season, each of which have put her on both the Ohio and National boards.
Given that she clocked a faster performance indoors in the full mile (1609m) during her trek to New Balance Nationals Indoor of 4:51.63 (which was faster than her 1600m Run of 4:53.97 set at SPIRE Ohio Preview Meet), this is already quicker than what she ran outdoors last year in the 1600m Run (4:54.50).
With the depth of her race, we could potentially see something special from Peer, and some movement on the All-Times list in Ohio. Although, she will be getting things warmed up in the 4x800m Relay that morning before she compete in the Mile in the afternoon.
She is set to compete in both the 4x800m Relay at 9:00 AM EST, and the Mile at 4:45 PM EST this Friday.
Dylan Wood
3200m Run (indoor) - 9:12.22
The last 2 seasons for Dylan has been quite something, especially between the 2020/21 and the 2021/22 Outdoor Season, making a noticeably huge jump in time during the 3200m, going from a 9:45.97 down to a 9:16.71, which also included a massive jump in rankings between the two seasons, and then a new personal best of 9:12.22 clock this past indoor season for a podium finish at the OATCCC D1 Indoor State Meet (OH #128 in 2021, OH #16 in 2022, OH #6 (in.) this past winter).
With this weekend being his first race over the 1600m Run for the outdoor season, we are excited to see what he could run in the 3000m, and even the possibility of running 8:22, which would be the conversion equivalent of a Sub-9 3200m Run.
He is set to compete at 5:35 PM EST this Friday.
Sydney Foglesong
Discus - 144-6
A powerhouse in both the Discus and Shot Put this outdoor season, Sydney is currently nearly undefeated in both events, winning the Discus 7/8 times and the Shot Put 8/9 times since the start of April, setting huge personal bests between the two this current outdoor season.
She is set to compete at 9:00 AM this Friday.
Westlake - Girl's 4x800m Relay
Handing things off to the Westlake Girl's 4x800m Relay, we will see the quartet of Sarah Peer (who is set to compete in the COA Mile in the afternoon), Ellie Irwin, Sydney Peer, and Sarah Colman. They are set to take on the heats of the High School Girls' 4x800m Relay on Friday, with hopes of qualifying for the High School Girls' 4x800m Championship of America and winning the coveted Penn Relays Wheel.
Respectively speaking, with the potential of racing this event twice and a Penn Relays Wheel on the line, we could see them throw down solid times and potentially end up at the top of the Ohio leaderboards, even possibly make themselves known on the National leaderboards at the conclusion of this weekend.
The High School Girls' 4x800m Heats are set to kick off at 9:00 AM EST this Friday, with the High School Girls' 4x800m Championship of America set for 4:45 PM EST on Saturday.
