Falcons Host Jane Hermann Invitational On Friday

Wed, Jan, 20 | Women's Track and Field

The Bowling Green State University track and field team will continue the indoor leg of its 2010 season by hosting the Jane Hermann Invitational on Friday, January 22nd.  The meet will begin at 5:00pm and will be held at the Perry Field House on the BGSU campus.

Jane Hermann was a member of the Falcons' track and field team from 1978 until 1981.  In December of 1981, Hermann was killed in a car-train accident, six days before she was to graduate from the University.  Hermann, who was deaf, had competed in the discus and javelin competitions at the Deaf Olympics.

Last year, the Falcons finished second at the Jane Hermann Invitational.  In the process, they won four events and set six new personal records.

At last week's meet, the BGSU Challenge, the Orange and Brown placed fifth out of ten squads, five of which were from the Mid-American Conference.  Freshman Jeanette Pettigrew began her BGSU career in style by winning the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.67, while senior Sabrina Forstein finished second in the pole vault event.  The Falcons finished in the top four of four other events, including the 4x400 relay.

This year's Jane Hermann Invitational will feature 16 events.  The Falcons will be joined in the meet by the University of Dayton, Youngstown State University, and Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne.

Admission to the event will be $5 for adults, $3 for youth (18 or younger), $2 for college students with current ID, and free admission will be given to BGSU students with a current ID.

A list of the events and times follow, with scheduled BGSU participants for each event.
