TOLEDO, OH
- Much like a baseball team during spring training, the University of Toledo
track and field team will split its squad this weekend to maximize the value of
its competition.
The sprinters and jumpers head to Bloomington,
IN for the Indiana Relays, hosted by Indiana University. The meet starts at 3 p.m.
Friday and features 22 schools, five clubs and professional organizations and
695 athletes, and action concludes Saturday evening.
The distance team, meanwhile, makes the short trek down I-75
to Bowling Green
for Saturday's Tom Wright Classic. The meet starts at 9:30 a.m. in the Perry
Field House and includes participants from Robert
Morris University,
Youngstown State University,
and Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne.
The Rockets are returning to action after earning a
second-place finish at the Great Dane Classic in New York City last Friday. Junior Ari Fisher
(Lebanon, OH) helped lead the charge with a victory in the mile run and joined
with Karen Sovacool (Lakewood, OH), Danielle Jacoby (Carey, OH) and Sarah Woodrum (Marion, OH) to a victory in the distance medley relay.
In the
field events, junior Alexandra Afloari (Deva, Romania) won the triple jump in
40-01.50 and was fifth in the long jump at 18-03.75. Afloari's triple jump is a
personal-best and ties her for third on the school's all-time list. Senior Michelle Sutherland (Maumee, OH) was runner-up in the high jump with a
leap of 5-08.75, the second-best in school history.
