FINAL STATS

The Bowling Green State University track and field team competed in the Tom Wright Classic this afternoon and soared to a season-best set of individual finishes.

The Tom Wright Classic, hosted by BGSU at the Perry Field House, is the Falcons' third meet of the season.  In their first meet, the Orange and Brown won had one event winner.  In their next meet, the Jane Hermann Invitational, BGSU featured seven winners in 16 events.

Today, nine Falcons won individual events out of the 14 in which a BGSU athlete competed; there were 17 total events for the meet.  On the track side, Bowling Green won seven of the 10 events in which they competed.  Of the five events that BGSU did not win, a Falcon placed second in two of the five and placed as high as third in two others.

In field events, senior Sabrina Forstein won the pole vault for the second meet in a row.  Her best jump of 12-04 was a new school record, breaking the previous BGSU best mark of 12-03.75 set by Andrea Cook. Sophomore Ashley Harris took home top honors in the shot put, with a top throw of 12.25 meters.  Harris also produced a second-place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 15.19 meters.

Freshman Janelle Campbell was the top finisher in BGSU's other field event, the long jump.  Her mark of 5.05 meters was good for fifth place.

On the track side of the meet, the Falcons were relentless.  Freshman Taylor Stichter won her first career event as a Falcon by running the 5000 meters in 19:46.67.  In the 800 meter run, BGSU featured the top four finishers.  Junior Heather Conger won the event with a time of 2:18.25.  Sophomores Gillian Allan and Saisha Gailliard finished just behind Conger with times of 2:19.80 and 2:20.54, respectively.  Freshman Mindy Henry placed fourth, just two seconds behind Gailliard.

Freshman Felicia Jefferson won her second different event in as many weeks.  Last week, it was the 200 meter dash.  Today, her time of 1:00.86 was enough to win the 400 meters.  Teammate and fellow freshman Allison Weimer finished the event in 1:01.56 for second place.

Falcon teammates also finished first and second in the 3000 meter run.  Andrea Pereira de Almeida won the event in 10:28.96, while Barbara Powers was just one second behind, completing the run in 10:30.01.

In the one mile run, Falcon junior Autumn Dettmann won with a time of 5:09.36.  Sophomore Ashley Fischer finished in third place, completing the event in 5:16.89.  BGSU also finished first and third in the Distance Medley Relay (DMR), a relay race in which each of the four athletes runs a different distance.  The team of Heather Conger, Danielle Thornton, Saisha Gailliard and Katie Borgelt won in 12:34.48.

The final winner of the day for the Orange and Brown was freshman Jessica Grant, who won her first event as a Falcon.  Grant won the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.11 seconds.

Other top finishers for BGSU included Courtney Krummert, who took second in the 600 meter run, and Rachael Doughty, who finished third in the 60 meter hurdles.  Doughty also had to run a preliminary race in the hurdles, and she won that race with a time of 9.13 seconds.  In the 4x400m Relay, Bowling Green's teams finished third and fourth, respectively.

Athletes from Youngstown State, Robert Morris, Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne and Toledo competed in today's meet.  The event was a non-scoring meet for team competitions, so no team winner was declared.

Bowling Green's track and field team will next compete at the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Indiana next Friday and Saturday.  The Falcons will then return home for the All-Ohio Championship on Friday, February 12 and Saturday, February 13.
