Upper Division Finish A Reward For Men's Track & Field Performance At OAC Relays

For a program on the rise, every  building block counts.

Today's effort at the Ohio Athletic Conference Relays provided a nice building block for the John Carroll men's track & field team, as they earned an upper division finish with their performance at the Lou Higgins Center in Berea, Ohio.

Ohio Northern won the team title with 104 points, edging Heidelberg which finished with 96. Mount Union (83), Otterbein (81) and John Carroll (74) rounded out the top five.

John carroll had one championship effort, which was earned by the long jump tandem of Bryan Wideman and Mike Minjock, whose combined effort totalled 42-7 3/4. Wideman cleared 21-6 1/4 to place fourth while Minjock landed at 21-1 1/2 to place sixth. 

It was a solid show for JCU, as  RK Glover -- whose effort was not factored into the team score -- gave the Blue Streaks three finishers in the top seven as he posted a mark of 20-10 to place seventh.

Other top scorers in field events were Mike Hltaky, who tied for second in the high jump (6-2); Glover, who was fifth in the triple jump (42-8 1/4) and Lou Galiano, who ranked sixth in the shot put (44-11 3/4).

Bill Zaccardelli, Denny Love, Anthony Colbert and Drew Krainz were part of John Carroll's highest placing relay. the 4 x 200 covered the distance in 1:33.84 to finish third.

Zaccardelli and Love also had a solid individual efforts, finishing fifth in the 55-meter dash (6.67) and fourth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.12), respectively.

Also posting a strong showing in a running event was Jake Smith, who was sixth in the 3000-meter run (9:08.73).
