OATCCC Indoor Championships: Unsung Heroes, New Crowns

Duo

Similar to what we saw with the Morlock brothers earlier, the two from Fort Recovery, Mara Pearson (Ft. Recovery 2024) and Anna Roessner (Ft. Recovery 2025), together both not just ended up on the podium, but also tallied up enough points throughout the day to put their school high on the scoring table, taking third overall with 20 points, sharing the spot with Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy (CVCA).

Starting with the senior and Marshall University commit, Mara Pearson, she remained nearly undefeated this season, consistently putting up marks of over 17 feet in the Long Jump, solidifying herself as one of the top long jumpers in the state with an 18-6 mark that she set at Akron Rubber City HS Open earlier in February. This was the second time she eclipsed over 18 during the wintertime, as she also jumped 18-1 at Ohio Northern back in January.

This past winter was actually her first time competing on the indoor circuit as well and looking back at her outdoor performances from last year, she could potentially go undefeated throughout the duration of the upcoming spring, as her only loss was a runner-up finish at the OHSAA Division 3 State Meet. Although, given her personal best in the event is 19-0.5, she could potentially be someone to look out for not just in Ohio, but in the nation as well.

Moving onto the track with the junior, Anna Roessner, after this last weekend, she has now put her name in the conversation as a, "Dark Horse," for state titles this spring. On Saturday, she did not only just set two personal bests, but Roessner also finished within the Top-4 for all three of her events (60m, 200m, 400m) for three seats on the podium. Notably, both her 200m and 400m Dash openers were already faster than her personal bests from last outdoor season. Along with that, as a mildly unrelated note, she actually qualified for the OHSAA Division 3 Cross-Country State Championship back in the fall.

60m - 7.76 - 4th
200m - 25.60 - 3rd
400m - 59.40 - 4th

From not making the outdoor state meet last spring to touching the state podium in all of her events this winter, she will be one to look forward to in not just Division 3, but also in the entire state.
