OATCCC Indoor Championships: Unsung Heroes, New Crowns

Farther, Farthest

There was quite a trend going on around SPIRE this weekend throughout the weekend, and that was the underclassmen showing that they can hold their own against the older kids. This was specially made apparent over at the sand pit for both Long Jump and Triple Jump on Saturday, as Galion sophomore, Jacob Chambers (Galion 2026) and CVCA sophomore, Kylee Zamecnik (CVCA 2026), both took home state titles from their respective events at the sand pit.

Chambers, who also competed in the 60m Dash and (5th place and personal best) 200m Dash, set the marks early in the Long Jump preliminary round, landing a jump of 22-3.25 feet on his third attempt which resulted in him on top of the podium. This was not just a personal best for him, but also his first time eclipsing the 22-feet barrier. This also settles him in at OH #5.

Just a few feet over to the right, Kylee Zamecnik made her statement in both the Long Jump and Triple Jump, winning both events off of her final or final attempts for both. Her win in the Long Jump is what really stuck out, as prior to her mark of 18-3, she was in third with a mark of 17-11.25. It was the opposite for her Triple Jump however, as she actually won the event off of her first mark (first attempt was a foul) of 36-9.75. Zamecnik concluded the event with a mark of 37-11, the only performance of the day over 36-feet. To top it off, she was the sole scorer for CVCA and resulted in a third-place finish on the scoring table.
