John Carroll Spreads The Wealth At the Jim Wuske Invitational

Drew Krainz anchored John Carroll's Wuske Invitational champion 4 x 200 Relay
Sometimes in a track meet, there might be one or two events that really shine while others fade into the background.

At the 2010 Jim Wuske Invitational hosted by Mount Union College, the John Carroll men's track & field program seemed to get strong efforts in nearly every discipline.

Results

The lone title won by the Blue Streaks was earned in the 4 x 200 Relay. The quartet of Bill Zaccardelli, Denny Love, Anthony Colbert and Drew Krainz edged the foursome from Fredonia State, 1:34.87 to 1:35.03.

The 4 x 400 relay also fared well, placing fifth. The team of David Hickey, Aaron Sharp, Krainz and Spencer German covered the distance in 3:36.46.

In the jumps, Mike Hlatky was the standout. As one of only two competitors to clear six feet, Hlatky was the runner-up in the high jump with a mark of 6-05 1/2 (1.97 meters).

Lou Galiano represented the Blue Streaks well in the throws. As the top performer from a school other than the host one, Galiano had his best effort of the season by placing fourth with a distance of 46-08 1/2 (14.23 meters).

The hurdles were the domain of Denny Love. After finishing fourth in the preliminaries, Love was a solid second behind Kris Stalma of Slippery Rock in the finals by covering the 55-meter distance in 8.09.

As for the sprints, freshman Bill Zaccardelli showed his wares in the 200-meter dash. He won his particular heat and placed fifth overall in a time of 23.23. Felow freshman Ian Johnson was fifth in the 500-meter dash (1:13.61).

John Carroll also showed some promise in the middle distances. In the 800-meter run, Aaron Sharp was sixth in a time of 2:01.96. In the 1,000-mete run, it was Evan Bellan (3:01.92) taking fourth and Patrick Burns (3:04.46) crossing the line in fifth.

In the distance events, Jake Smith placed sixth (4:31.76) and Pat Burns finished eighth (4:36.74) in the one mile run. Jeff Sigmund was the top JCU runner in the 5,000-meter run, earning sixth place (16:23.56).

The Jim Wuske Invitational was an unscored meet.
