One of Emily Tillmaand's top five finishes at the Jim Wuske Invitational was a title in the 1000-meter run
Emily Tillmaand won the 1000-meter run and several other Blue Streaks were among the top placers in their respective events as part of a solid all-arou nd effort by John Carroll at the Jim Wuske Invitational Saturday at Mount Union College.
Results
Tillmaand led a JCU charge in the 1000-meter event, as JCu finished first, third, fourth and fifth. Tillmaand's winning time was 3:19.55, while
Kelly Grieve was a close third in 3:21.44.
Katherine Spillman (3:32.73) and
Melissa Vinci (3:40.17) were fourth and fifth, respectively.
The 5000-meter run and one mile run were also strong events for the Blue Streaks. Tillmaand had a season best time of 11:03.80 to finish fifth in the 5000, while Grieve was seventh in 11:17.08. Spillman 5 had a season best mark of 5:46.95 to finish fifth in the mile.
In the 200-meter dash,
Maureen Creighton continued her impressive freshman campaign by placing fourth in a time of 27.23. Her time broke the school record previously held by Gen Kahn (27.50 set in 2006).
John Carroll has three top six placers in the 500-meter dash --
Ryann Smith was third (1:27.84),
Katie Skelly placed fourth (1:28.24) and
Tara Knight finished sixth (1:29.97).
Megan Lutz was the Blue Streaks top performer in the 800-mete run (2:28.81).
In the field events, John Carroll fared well in jumps measured in both heights and distances.
Brittany Musa had a fifth place showing in the high jump (4-09 1/2 - 1.46 meters).
Alicia Giannell was seventh in the triple jump (34-03 - 10.44 meters) and ninth in the long jump (16-05 - 4.89 meters).
JCU had top top four relays to cap off the day. In the 4 x 200 event, Creighton, Giannell,
Maribeth Keppler and
Stephanie Charlillo were fourth in 1:54.23. Smith, Skelly, Knight and Lutz teamed up to finish third in the 4 x 400 Relay (4:27.02).
