Ohio Future Stars: Sadie Schultz and Calvin Watson

For this week's edition of Ohio Future Stars, we took a look at two athletes who were the fastest finishers overall from the day at the OHSAA 7th & 8th Grade Cross Country Post Season Invitational.

Sadie Schultz of Fairfield Union MS and Calvin Watson of Worthingway MS.

Starting with 8th-grader Sadie Schultz of Fairfield Union MS - Lancaster, who ran 11:32.01 on Sunday to clock the only sub-11:40 performance out of the entire competition, which consisted of a whopping 846 girls who contested at Fortress Obetz!

Looking back on her season, it seems that this is her first-year contesting cross-country, and it certainly has been a strong first, as Schulz went nearly undefeated all season except on two occasions where she took second. Although, looking back to last spring, she also contested in her first track season, putting up solid personal bests including a 5:22.24 in the 1600m and 2:31.90.

Given her performances so far, she will be one to look forward to this incoming indoor and outdoor track and field season.

Moving onto Calvin Watson of Worthingway MS, he clocked the fastest time out of 976 boys on Sunday, putting up a personal best as well in the 2 Mile with a time of 10:24.73. He has remained undefeated throughout this cross-country season, also putting up a notable 10:07.75 (3200m) performance on the grass earlier this month.

Both of these are improvements upon his previous seasons best from last season of 10:09.96 (3200m) and 10:41.50 (2 Mile).

The 8th grade will be coming into both this indoor and outdoor track and field season with solid performances to his name already, including a 4:44.37 in the 1600m and 2:16.41 in the 800m.
