For this week's edition of 'Ohio Future Stars,' we take a look at this past opening weekend for the OATCCC Indoor Track and Field season where we had two standout performances from a star freshman and an elementary aged athlete who took to the line with the high schoolers on Saturday.
Sean Reith and Rebecca Plumley
Starting with Reith, he's been toeing the line with the high schoolers even before he began his high school campaign this school year, dating back to the previous indoor season, where he put up solid performances during the OATCCC season in the 800m/1600m with standout performances of 2:05.63 and 4:26.50. Most notably though, at New Balance Nationals Indoor, Reith took home victories in both the Middle School sections of the 800 and Mile, putting up efforts of 2:00.40 and 4:24.68.
During the outdoor season, he went undefeated and ending his middle school career with a highlight victory at the prestigious Brooks PR Invitational in the Mile.
Fast forward to this indoor season, he is currently the top freshman in the country in the 1600m with his high school debut of 4:23.00 at Kent State HS Meet #1.
For Rebecca Plumley, it is not often we see the middle schoolers duke it out with the high schoolers; even more when it ends up being an elementary schooler. After checking in with her coach recently, we were told she was actually only in the third grade!
Representing the Dayton Wolverines Track Club, Plumley doubled the 1600m and 3200m Run at the University of Findlay Dave's Running High School Series #1, where she put up respectable performances of 6:33.64 and (supposedly ran an extra lap), 15:01.28.
This isn't her first time racing though, as she competed in the Cross Country Coaches National Youth Championships during the cross-country season, where she clocked 13:17.90 for the 3000m distance on grass.
