TEAM STANDINGS

After a win at the Jane Hermann Invitational and a very strong showing at the Tom Wright Classic, the Bowling Green State University track and field team took a week off to rest and prepare for the All-Ohio Championships.

The result?  Another strong showing, as the Falcons took second place at the All-Ohio Championships.  The Orange and Brown won four events and had a top-three finisher in three others.

Bowling Green completed today's events with a final score of 124, finishing only behind the Redhawks of Miami.  Ashland finished third in this weekend's meet, while fellow MAC foe Ohio University ended the day in fourth place.

In the track events, the star of the day was freshman Jeanette Pettigrew.  Pettigrew won the 60 meter dash for the third time this season.  In this meet, Pettigrew finished with a time of 7.61 seconds.  That time is within one-tenth of a second of the BGSU record of 7.53 seconds, set in 2006.  Pettigrew won the 200 meter dash for the first time this season, with a time of 25.63 seconds.

Fellow freshman Jessica Grant earned points for the Falcons in both the 200 meter and 60 meter dash.  Grant finished 5th in the 200 meters and 6th in the 60 meters.  Felicia Jefferson placed third in the 200 meters with a time of 25.84 seconds, to also earn points for BGSU.

Jefferson and Pettigrew also participated in the 4x400 meter relay, in which the Falcons placed second.  Joined by Allison Weimer and Brittani McNeal, the Orange and Brown finished in a time of 4:00.05.

Junior Heather Conger won the 800 meter run for the second meet in a row, completing the event in 2:14.90.  Two other Falcons finished in the top five of the 800 meters.  Gillian Allan earned a third place finish with a time of 2:18.20, while Saisha Gailliard finished fifth.

Along with Mindy Henry and Autumn Dettmann, Conger and Gailliard also placed well in the Distance Medley Relay (DMR).  Their time of 12:22.93 was good for fourth place.

Junior Rachael Doughty was BGSU's other top-three track finisher for the night.  Doughty placed third in the 60 meter hurdles, ending the run in 9.03 seconds.  Doughty also competed in a field event, placing 10th in the long jump.

Other Falcons scoring points for BGSU in track: Abby Koch and Barbara Powers (3000M Run), Allison Weimer (400M Dash), Andrea Pereira de Almeida (5000M Run), and Autumn Dettmann and Ashley Fischer (1 Mile Run).

In field events, senior Sabrina Forstein yet again was victorious in the pole vault.  Today, Forstein equaled the former BGSU record of 12-03 1/2 that she broke at the Tom Wright Classic two weeks ago.

Junior Brittani McNeal finished second in the long jump, with a mark of 18-00 1/2.  Janelle Campbell placed eight in the event.  Campbell also placed tenth in the triple jump by posting a score of 31-10.

Sophomore Ashley Harris placed sixth in the shot put (42-07 1/2) and seventh in the weight throw (52-04), while Brooke McCombs scored points for BGSU by earning a 7th place finish in the shot put.

In the high jump, freshman Tatijana Jacobson placed fifth for the Falcons.

BGSU's track and field team now have a week off to prepare for the indoor Mid-American Conference Championships.  The MAC title meet will be held in Mount Pleasant, Michigan on Friday, February 26th and Saturday, February 27th.  Complete details about the meet will be available at bgsufalcons.com as the meet approaches.
